Ocular Aesthetics – Oculoplasty

At Clínica Nivaria, we specialize in treating the structures surrounding the eye, applying both aesthetic and functional treatments. If you have any eye problems, don't hesitate to visit our ophthalmology clinic. We will advise you on the best treatment to correct and repair both the function and appearance of your eye.

At our clinic we provide various specialized oculoplastic treatments :

  • Blepharoplasty , or eyelid surgery, removes excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids, rejuvenating the face and significantly reducing unsightly bags and dark circles under the eyes. The surgery aims to reposition or reduce hypertrophied fat and reinforce the supporting tissues, removing any excess skin.
  • Entropion treatment. Entropion is the inward turning of the lower eyelid and eyelashes into the eyeball, causing irritation, excessive tearing, and vision loss. Temporary treatment with injected medications (botulinum toxin) is possible, but the most effective and permanent correction is surgery. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, tightening the eyelid and modifying the eyelid muscles.
  • Ectropion treatment. Unlike entropion, ectropion involves the eyelid turning outward, but it manifests with similar consequences: continuous tearing or irritation. The most effective and permanent correction is surgery. As with entropion treatment, local anesthesia is applied, and the eyelid is tightened to correct it with minor local modifications.
  • Ptosis surgery refers to the drooping of the eyelids due to functional causes (alteration of the levator muscles) and can also be caused by systemic diseases with ocular manifestations, such as diabetes or myasthenia gravis, among others. In many cases, this can impair vision or affect appearance. The procedure in this case is performed to reinforce the muscles and tendons, leaving the scar hidden in the eyelid crease.

Oculoplastic surgery

Oculoplastic surgery is a subspecialty within ophthalmology that treats functional and aesthetic disorders and diseases related to the eyelids, eyebrows, tear ducts, orbit, and conjunctiva. The eyelids are a very delicate area, and it is important that any procedure be performed by an ophthalmologist specializing in this type of surgery. They apply not only an aesthetic understanding of the eyes and eyelids but also a deep knowledge of their structures and their function in relation to vision.

What are the benefits of oculoplastic surgery?

The benefits of oculoplastic surgery focus on resolving pathological problems and at the same time addressing aesthetic defects such as facial rejuvenation or modifying the appearance of the eyes.

The cause of drooping eyelids, or ptosis, is usually congenital and can also be due to systemic diseases with ocular manifestations, such as diabetes, myasthenia gravis, and others. It typically arises from a dysfunction of the levator muscle, due to degenerative or congenital causes.
