It seems like only yesterday, and it's hard to believe that our journey began in February 10 years ago. It feels like these 10 years have flown by, like returning from a well-deserved trip… And that's because, deep down, the story of our center is like a journey: there's planning, you choose your colleagues, the means to get there, you meet people, you make friends with those who accompany you… And like any journey, sometimes things aren't perfect; there might be a delay, a minor injury, a traveler dropping out… We accept it, but it doesn't change the overall feeling: it has been (and hopefully will continue to be) a very constructive journey. Because that's what we've done: BUILD. We've managed to build a TEAM that's hard to beat, a team that loves what it does, that even after days of obvious overload still believes in and values the satisfaction of a job well done, that cares about the needs of PATIENTS AND COLLEAGUES. Great people.
In a society that traditionally relied on private consultations, a group of ophthalmologists within the public healthcare system managed to gain a foothold and steadily increase their presence. Around 25,000 patient records and nearly 5,000 surgeries are currently our strongest credentials.
In the beginning, our staff consisted of only five people, including specialists and other personnel. Currently, nearly ten specialists work constantly at our center, another ten specialists use the center's resources occasionally, and we also have around ten other members in administration, optometry, nursing, assistants... the number 10, as you can see, is a constant in our activity.
As you all know, we have been operating from our facilities on Castro Street in Santa Cruz since the beginning. Until a few years ago, this location more than adequately met our needs, but the growth of our practice now demands a larger facility. Therefore, we have decided to embark on a new adventure in a more spacious center, with easier access and better visibility, located on the main thoroughfare of our capital city, on the section of Las Ramblas known as Avenida Reyes Católicos. We will have more consulting rooms and state-of-the-art surgical facilities, hoping to improve the care we provide to our patients, which has always been our primary objective: to be a top-notch center.
Regarding our name and new image, we have decided to complement the current one: Ophthalmo-Surgical Center with a term that renews our identity and is easy to remember, and what better than the name that the Romans in their writings assigned to our island because of its snowy peaks: NIVARIA.
We believe we should always strive to improve, and that's why we're taking on this challenge with renewed enthusiasm. We hope to share it with you. See you soon…
